The A46 comes to Cospicua
Cranchi Yachts is displaying the A46 Luxury Tender at the Malta Boat Show, which runs from 29 October to 1 November 2026 in Cospicua. The model is the largest of three Cranchi boats named in the company’s exhibition notice, alongside the M44 HT and E26 O/B. At 14.25 metres overall, it sits firmly in the luxury-yacht category despite the builder’s tender description.
For Malta’s coastal cruising scene, the show provides a useful chance to compare a more substantial overnight-capable luxury tender with traditional small sports cruisers. The A46’s design centres on flexible open-air living, quick access to the water and a layout that can accommodate short stays aboard.
Opening bulwarks create a broader terrace
Cranchi’s design includes fold-down bulwarks at the stern, operated electrically, and a movable swim platform that can rise to meet the expanded deck or descend towards the water. The arrangement is intended to make the yacht a social platform when anchored. People can move easily between relaxation spaces and the sea without giving up the clean lines of the hull when underway.
The mechanics of these moving areas deserve close inspection. They must be properly locked, protected and maintained, particularly in a saltwater environment. Owners should understand the load limits, deployment conditions and emergency procedure for every moving deck element before relying on the platforms with guests aboard.
A louvred T-top over the social centre
Amidships, the A46 uses a louvred T-top to provide adjustable shelter over the main dining and galley zone. Further forward, the helm and additional seating are arranged around the yacht’s walkaround configuration. The builder describes an expansive sense of connection to the surroundings rather than a conventional fully enclosed deck salon.
That design can suit Mediterranean summers particularly well, but owners must still plan for wind, sun and sudden rain. The ability to make shade quickly, secure furnishings and move safely forward matters as much as the comfort of the central dining area. A visit to the physical yacht will show how those details are handled.
Two ways to extend the day into a night
The lower-deck arrangement contains a full-beam aft sleeping cabin and a forward dinette that can convert into a sleeping area. Cranchi quotes four berths overall and includes a bathroom with a separate shower. Those facilities turn an attractive dayboat into a plausible short-break yacht when marina access and supplies have been planned.
Buyers should assess the storage and privacy of both sleeping areas, especially if four people intend to stay aboard. Converting furniture is straightforward in a brochure but can change the ease of movement within a small interior. The right test is to imagine bedding, luggage and ordinary overnight belongings in place.
Diesel IPS propulsion and principal dimensions
Cranchi lists twin Volvo Penta D6-IPS 650 units, with each engine rated at 480 horsepower. The published hull beam is 4.29 metres and the overall length includes the substantial bathing arrangements. Fuel capacity is approximately 1,500 litres, with 300 litres of freshwater capacity in the manufacturer’s standard figures.
These figures should be confirmed against the actual boat’s engine installation and selected options. A prospective owner also needs to consider the overall berth footprint and availability of suitable service technicians in Malta. Equipment selection affects weight and maintenance, so a full package quotation is more useful than a basic advertised price.
Passenger limits and local operating conditions
The yard specifies CE category B and a maximum of fourteen passengers for the A46 in the relevant design documentation. That figure is an operating limit, not the number of people who can sleep aboard. The correct safe load depends on the actual certificate, distribution of weight and sea conditions.
A yacht intended for trips between Malta, Gozo and nearby anchorages will encounter very different conditions across a season. The boat’s stability, weather protection and tender arrangement need to be evaluated with those passages in mind. Passenger comfort and conservative forecasts should remain central to the plan.
What visitors should investigate
The A46 is being shown as part of Cranchi’s 2026 Malta Boat Show fleet rather than introduced as a brand-new global launch. Visitors should inspect how the terrace opens, compare the sleeping arrangement with the larger M44 HT and ask what after-sales arrangements are available locally. A sea trial would help establish whether the boat’s open configuration suits the intended cruising area.
The A46’s attraction is the ability to make a day at anchor feel unusually spacious while retaining genuine short-stay accommodation. It is a compelling concept for private luxury cruising, provided the owner is satisfied with the balance of weather protection, equipment complexity and servicing costs.
