For yacht projects considering battery-assisted hotel loads or hybrid propulsion, cybersecurity joins electrical, structural and fire-safety questions. The supplier's certification should be checked against the exact hardware and software version proposed for a vessel.
The certified system scope
Corvus identifies the Dolphin NxtGen family and specified Gen 4 controller as covered by the DNV cybersecurity type approval. The certificate provides evidence of a component-level assessment rather than a statement that an entire installed network is immune to attack.
Modern batteries exchange data with control and monitoring equipment, making access and software maintenance part of the engineering plan. A yacht's full network may contain unrelated systems with different security status.
Integration remains vessel-specific
Battery size, placement, ventilation, firefighting and operating load must be engineered for the actual yacht. A 12–23.99-metre project should not extrapolate from a battery's suitability for a different commercial ship.
The certification does not replace flag and class requirements, where applicable, or a thorough vessel-level security design. Suppliers and integrators should agree responsibility for updates, spares, remote access and incident response.
