Aquavista enters the Scottish marina market

Aquavista Watersides & Marinas has acquired Clyde Marina in Ardrossan, Ayrshire, together with Sunbird International Yacht Sales, expanding its UK portfolio into Scotland for the first time. The transaction was reported at the end of September 2026, and the Yacht Harbour Association subsequently highlighted the acquisition in its October news.

Clyde Marina is on the Firth of Clyde, with access to one of Britain's best-known cruising regions and onward routes to the islands of the west coast. That position makes the site relevant to owners who want a base for exploring Scottish waters rather than a conventional South Coast summer itinerary.

The acquisition increases Aquavista's network to 34 marina and waterside locations, including established coastal facilities elsewhere in Britain. The company has not published the consideration paid, so the investment cannot responsibly be assigned a transaction value.

Berths, lifting equipment and winter storage matter

The marina has approximately 280 serviced berths and two boatyards with storage capacity for more than 300 vessels. That is a combination of afloat and shore-side services suited to owners who need periodic maintenance or prefer to take their boats out of the water during winter.

Clyde Marina's reported equipment includes a 50-tonne mobile travel lift, a 20-tonne boat mover and a 25-tonne mobile crane. The operational limits of each machine depend on the actual vessel, its beam and how it can be supported safely, rather than the quoted lifting figure alone.

Other services include marine diesel, showers, laundry and waste and recycling facilities. These may sound routine, but a cruising family preparing for a passage can depend on straightforward access to fuel, drinking water and a suitable place to handle maintenance work.

The berth count describes positions of different sizes, not a guarantee that every yacht can use any pontoon. Owners should confirm individual berth dimensions, draft, electricity supply and the marina's approach and weather conditions before planning a longer stay.

Sunbird Yacht Sales becomes part of the transaction

Sunbird International Yacht Sales is included in the acquired business, providing a brokerage connection for customers considering a change of boat. Marina operation and yacht sales have separate responsibilities, but the presence of both can make it convenient for an owner to arrange viewings, storage and possible maintenance at a single location.

Aquavista chief executive Steve de Polo has welcomed the new team and highlighted the regional cruising opportunities around the Clyde and Scottish islands. The company's stated intention is to learn from the existing marina operation rather than announce an immediate replacement of every service or tenancy agreement.

Existing customers are likely to want clear information about their contracts, payments and practical access while the new owner integrates the business. A change in corporate ownership does not necessarily imply a different price or a new berth assignment on the day the transaction is announced.

Ardrossan retains a wider harbour role

Clyde Marina will continue operating in the context of the wider Ardrossan Harbour redevelopment. An agreement involving Caledonian Maritime Assets and Peel Waters sets a framework for the commercial and ferry-harbour work, but it should not be interpreted as an announcement that all construction has been completed.

For sailors, Ardrossan provides opportunities to explore Arran and the Clyde while retaining connections to road and urban services. The length and timing of future voyages will continue to depend on weather, local navigation guidance and the support available to the skipper.

The acquisition also illustrates a wider trend of multi-site marina businesses investing in regional facilities. Scale can help share expertise and systems, but the quality of service still depends on experienced local staff and the maintenance of the actual waterfront infrastructure.
