The launch closes a multi-month development phase
AMEL describes the first launch as the culmination of design, development and construction work by the shipyard's teams. The 50.2 succeeds the AMEL 50 and is the yard's first completely new model since the AMEL 60 was introduced seven years earlier.
That makes hull one particularly important because it establishes the real-world reference for future production boats. Weight, systems integration, finish and sailing behaviour can now be measured on the completed yacht rather than inferred from drawings and specifications.
The new model remains centred on owner operation
AMEL designed the 50.2 for couples, families and friends who want long-distance cruising without relying on a large permanent crew. Its central cockpit is deeply protected, the helm ergonomics have been revised and the hardtop pillars moved aft to improve visibility.
At 16.70 metres overall and 4.99 metres beam, the yacht sits comfortably inside LYG's owner-operated luxury-yacht range. It offers substantial cruising capacity while remaining far below the 24-metre threshold that separates this market from superyachts.
Energy and autonomy receive more attention
The specification includes 570 watts of solar generation, a 670-litre fuel tank and 600 litres of fresh water. AMEL also highlights a multifunction display intended to simplify monitoring of onboard systems and energy use during longer periods away from shore power.
These are not dramatic headline numbers in isolation, but they reflect the practical priorities of owners who live aboard for weeks or months. Better information and modest renewable generation can reduce unnecessary engine or generator use while making system management easier for a small crew.
Atlantic trials come before the show circuit
After entering the water, the 50.2 moved into sea trials off the Atlantic coast before heading to the Mediterranean. AMEL scheduled the official presentation for the Cannes Yachting Festival from 8 to 13 September 2026.
That sequence gives prospective buyers more confidence than a static debut alone. The yacht reaches the public after time under sail, allowing rig, steering, propulsion and onboard systems to be adjusted before customer demonstrations and future production orders.
