A complete transformation

Regent Hotels & Resorts will make its French Polynesia debut with Regent Bora Bora, scheduled to open in late 2027. The project transforms the former InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa after an extensive renovation.

The new resort will have 84 villas, all positioned over the water on a private motu facing Mount Otemanu. That all-overwater format gives the property a clear identity in a destination already famous for lagoon villas.

Bora Bora is one of the world’s most recognisable leisure destinations, so a new luxury resort needs more than a famous view. The redesign is intended to combine privacy, space and contemporary residential comfort.

Lagoon life

An overwater resort naturally makes the lagoon part of everyday life rather than a backdrop. Guests can move between their villa, swimming and water activities without the separation found at larger island properties.

The private-motu setting also reduces through-traffic and gives the resort a more secluded rhythm. For couples and longer-stay guests, that privacy can be as important as the size of a villa.

The former property already occupied one of Bora Bora’s strongest locations. The transformation therefore builds on an established site rather than an untested part of the island.

Yacht-like privacy

Regent Bora Bora should appeal to travellers who value yacht-like qualities such as water at the door, privacy and flexible days. The experience stays in one place geographically but remains deeply connected to the lagoon.

It can also work before or after a yacht charter elsewhere in French Polynesia. Guests gain a few days of resort comfort without abandoning the marine focus of the trip.

A major opening

The Regent name brings a residential interpretation of luxury to a setting where nature already does much of the work. That makes restraint and service quality more important than visual excess.

If the renovation delivers on privacy and ease, Regent Bora Bora could become one of the more compelling island openings of 2027. For LYG readers, it belongs firmly on the future travel list.
