A rookie season ends with a national title
South African driver Keagan Masters has won the 2026 Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland championship during his first season in the series. The title was settled at Hockenheim, where a ninth-place finish in the final race proved enough to keep rival Flynt Schuring behind him on points.
Masters competed with Proton Competition, whose squad celebrated a third consecutive drivers' championship. Porsche says he recorded eight podium finishes and two race victories over the sixteen-race season.
Rapidly changing weather disrupts the race
Rain before the finale led most of the 29 drivers to choose wet-weather tyres. As the circuit dried, many teams changed their decision immediately before the start, sending drivers into the pit lane for slick tyres.
Masters and title rival Schuring both joined those making late changes, which obliged them to start from the pit lane. The change created a difficult recovery drive at the most important race of the season.
A dramatic recovery secures enough points
The title contenders dropped deep into the field after early setbacks, including an excursion for Masters and a spin by Schuring. They later recovered to finish ninth and twelfth, allowing Masters to retain his overall advantage.
Niels Langeveld and Sebastian Freymuth benefited from the initial tyre strategy to complete a one-two result for Laptime-Performance. That race outcome was distinct from the season championship ultimately claimed by Masters.
Recognition for rising racing talent
Chester Kieffer earned the Rookie championship while Michael Essmann secured the ProAm classification. Their titles illustrate the several competitive categories running within Porsche's one-make racing programme.
Schuring also received a fastest-lap award recognising his performance over the season, with a Porsche Design Chronograph 1 presented during a gala dinner. The award reflects competition timing rather than an unrelated commercial watch launch.
A significant step for Masters
Masters moved to Bavaria to pursue his racing career and thanked his family after the title was confirmed. Porsche reported that relatives travelled from South Africa to support him at the deciding event.
Winning a closely fought one-make championship may open further opportunities, but the result alone does not establish a future racing contract. For Porsche enthusiasts, the season provides a clear example of how strategy, consistency and weather judgement influence the sport.
