Helly Hansen has expanded its long-running Skagen sailing collection with the new Skagen Insulated Winter Jacket for FW26/27. Designed for cold coastal and offshore conditions, the unisex jacket combines waterproof Helly Tech Performance fabric with PrimaLoft Black insulation, a warm fleece lining, SOLAS reflectors and sailing-specific pocket and cuff details.

The jacket is built for the colder, slower side of sailing

Helly Hansen developed the new Skagen model around the reality that offshore and coastal sailing can involve long periods of relatively little movement in cold wind and rain. Unlike high-intensity foiling or dinghy sailing, standing watch or helming for extended periods places much more emphasis on insulation and sustained weather protection.

That makes the jacket especially relevant to owners who cruise beyond the Mediterranean summer season. Autumn passages, northern-European sailing and early-season weekends can quickly expose the limits of lightweight shell clothing when the crew is wet, tired and spending hours in a fixed position.

PrimaLoft insulation sits beneath a waterproof shell

The outer fabric uses Helly Tech Performance construction intended to provide waterproof, windproof and breathable protection. Warmth comes from PrimaLoft Black insulation combined with a fleece lining, creating a layered system designed to retain heat without the bulk of a conventional winter coat.

PrimaLoft is intended to continue insulating even when damp, an important characteristic around spray and repeated wet-weather use. The combination should make the jacket useful not only aboard but also during cold marina work, winter travel and shore days where waterproof protection and warmth need to coexist.

Sailing details include a high-visibility hood and Life Pocket

The detachable hood is adjustable in two directions and includes a high-visibility finish and ergonomic visor intended to preserve peripheral vision. Stretch PU cuffs can be tightened around gloves, while reinforced lower-back and pre-shaped elbow areas address the points that receive repeated wear aboard.

Storage includes hand pockets, chest hand-warmer pockets, an internal chest pocket and Helly Hansen's insulated Life Pocket for a mobile phone. The concept is intended to slow battery drain in cold conditions, a small but useful feature when a phone is also being used for weather, communication or navigation support.

Technical sailing wear can work beyond the race dock

The Skagen Insulated Winter Jacket is offered from XS to XXL and can be paired with the Skagen Offshore Bib and Skagen Hybrid Knit Insulator. Its design remains recognisably technical rather than fashion-led, but the cleaner modern styling makes it practical for marina and shore use as well as the cockpit.

For the LYG lifestyle audience, that crossover is more useful than purely decorative sailing clothing. A well-made winter jacket earns its place by keeping an owner comfortable during real boating, then continuing to work for travel and everyday outdoor use when the yacht is back in the berth.
