BMW Motorrad has unveiled the new F 450 R, a lightweight naked bike designed to blend everyday accessibility with the sharper feel of the brand's larger performance roadsters. With 48hp, a ready-to-ride weight of 175kg, a 6.5-inch TFT display and a range of rider-assistance systems, it is aimed at riders who want a premium motorcycle without the size or intensity of a litre-class machine.
A compact twin keeps performance accessible
The F 450 R uses a 420cc parallel-twin engine producing 35kW, or 48hp, at 8,750rpm and 43Nm of torque at 6,750rpm. BMW says 80 percent of the available torque arrives by 3,000rpm, giving the bike useful response without demanding constant high-rev riding.
That character suits mixed everyday use particularly well. A rider can commute through town during the week, then enjoy faster country roads at the weekend without carrying the extra weight, heat and insurance burden often associated with much larger high-performance motorcycles.
Low weight is central to the riding experience
BMW quotes a ready-to-ride weight of just 175kg, helped by compact packaging and a steel tubular frame that uses the engine as a load-bearing element. A short wheelbase and road-focused geometry are intended to make the bike agile and easy to place through corners.
For riders who keep a motorcycle at a second home, marina or city apartment, manageable weight has practical value beyond performance. Moving the bike in a garage, parking on uneven ground and navigating crowded streets can all feel easier when the machine is compact and predictable.
Electronics bring big-bike features into the middleweight class
Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes are standard, together with ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, traction control and engine-drag-torque control. Higher variants add features such as Riding Modes Pro, sport suspension and Shift Assistant Pro for clutchless upshifts and downshifts.
BMW also offers its Easy Ride Clutch, which can automate clutch engagement while leaving the lever available when the rider wants manual control. This is especially useful in stop-start urban traffic, where convenience can matter as much as outright performance.
Comfort and connectivity support longer leisure rides
The standard seat height is 790mm, with lower and higher accessory seats available to tailor the fit. Heated grips, LED lighting, a USB-C port and a 6.5-inch TFT display are standard, while the 14-litre tank gives a claimed range of more than 350 kilometres.
That combination makes the F 450 R more than a short-distance city bike. It has enough comfort, technology and range for day trips or weekend touring, yet remains compact enough to fit naturally into the kind of flexible, premium leisure lifestyle that suits LYG readers.
