The Y72 brings larger-yacht thinking below 24 metres
At 22.8 metres overall, the Y72 sits close to the upper boundary of the LYG segment. Princess uses the extra length to create broader social spaces, a substantial flybridge and a four-cabin lower deck without moving into a full superyacht scale.
That position can be attractive to owners who want the feel of a larger yacht while keeping berthing and regulatory requirements more manageable. The model still benefits from professional crew, but it remains meaningfully smaller than the next tier of large motor yachts.
The owner’s suite gets dedicated access
Princess gives the full-beam owner’s stateroom its own stairway, separating it from the three guest cabins. This creates greater privacy and reduces traffic through the owner’s area when friends or family are staying aboard.
The guest accommodation includes a forward double and two twin cabins, with sliding-berth options available. That flexibility allows the yacht to adapt between family use and adult guest groups without changing the underlying layout.
Twin V12s push the yacht to 35 knots
The Y72 uses twin MAN V12-1650 engines and carries 4,500 litres of fuel as standard. Princess quotes a 33- to 35-knot maximum-speed range, with an optional additional 900-litre fuel tank available for owners prioritising longer cruising range.
The extended-fuel option is especially relevant for buyers who intend to cruise beyond established marina networks. Range planning still depends heavily on speed and sea conditions, but additional capacity can reduce the need to organise every itinerary around frequent refuelling stops.
Fort Lauderdale gives buyers a useful scale comparison
At FLIBS, the Y72 will sit alongside smaller F and V Class models and larger X Class yachts. That makes the show particularly useful for owners deciding whether 23 metres is sufficient or whether their programme genuinely requires the volume of a much larger yacht.
The decision often turns on crew, storage, guest patterns and berth availability rather than prestige. A careful walk-through of the Y72 should reveal whether its four-cabin arrangement and upper-deck volume provide enough space without introducing unnecessary complexity.
