Specialist shipping becomes part of an Olympic campaign
Pindar has been appointed Official Logistics Partner of the British Sailing Team as the programme prepares for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The arrangement, announced on 29 September through British Marine, gives the specialist transport firm responsibility for supporting the movement of boats, equipment and operational resources between international training and competition venues.
The appointment reflects the often unseen work behind sailing performance. A team can plan its coaching, engineering and racing preparation in detail, but those efforts can be compromised if boats or essential components arrive late or damaged. The new partnership puts dedicated logistics planning alongside the athletic programme.
Beyond moving the racing boats
Pindar will support transport for training camps, international regattas and major championships across the calendar. That requires attention not only to loading and freight schedules but also to customs paperwork, temporary import arrangements, insurance and secure storage. The parties did not publish an individual shipping itinerary or a fixed commercial value for the contract.
The British Sailing Team's craft are largely specialist Olympic-class boats and should not be mistaken for the 12–23.99-metre yachts at the heart of Luxury Yacht Guide. The cross-sector interest lies in the skills of a marine logistics operator whose procedures may also be relevant when larger private craft or their equipment are moved internationally.
Why yacht owners should notice
Private owners arrange transport for tenders, spars, sails, specialist parts and sometimes whole yachts between seasons. Such movements benefit from precise measurements, lifting plans and an understanding of which items can travel on the vessel or require separate consignments. A shipping specialist accustomed to demanding regatta schedules may have useful expertise for those projects.
However, Olympic equipment logistics does not mean a transporter is automatically approved for every oversized yacht. Owners should request vessel-specific quotations, evidence of insurance, responsibilities at loading and discharge, transit protection and the handling of delays. Written scope is especially important when a yacht is expected to arrive in time for a charter or seasonal itinerary.
Preparations ahead of Los Angeles
Pindar founding partner Andrew Pindar describes the collaboration as a continuation of the company's longstanding involvement with sailing. British Sailing's performance director Mark Robinson points to the importance of dependable worldwide deliveries for the athletes. Both emphasise consistency and operational preparation rather than a direct effect on medal prospects.
The agreement adds to the network of professional businesses underpinning international sailing. Its tangible outcomes will be seen through execution across successive regattas as the 2028 cycle progresses. For LYG readers, it is an illustration of how specialised marine services contribute to reliable movement of vessels and equipment across borders. Movement of race equipment involves repeated deadlines, and that operational discipline has an obvious parallel in the way private yachts prepare for a new cruising season.
