A lower asking price for a fast Italian yacht

Fraser announced a price reduction on 13 October 2026 for BACK 9 AND A HALF, a 37-metre motor yacht built by ISA. The newly advertised figure is $7.9 million, which is the seller’s asking price rather than evidence of a negotiated sale. The brokerage notice also highlights a substantial refit completed in 2024, giving buyers a specific body of recent work to examine.

The yacht was delivered in 2017 and has styling associated with Andrea Vallicelli. Her profile emphasises speed and open-deck enjoyment, a distinct operating proposition from a full-displacement cruiser of similar length. A buyer should begin by deciding whether frequent, relatively short passages suit the intended programme better than the slower pace and potentially different endurance of heavier yachts.

Fraser reports a top speed of 31 knots from triple MTU engines. That figure conveys the type of vessel under discussion, but it does not establish normal cruising consumption or the range at high speed. Anyone evaluating ownership costs should request performance data at several loads and speeds, along with machinery records and a survey of the propulsion installation.

Five cabins and outdoor living

The broker describes accommodation for up to ten guests in five staterooms, including a full-beam owner’s suite. Five cabins provide flexibility for a family or mixed guest party, but the practical benefit depends on the arrangement of double and twin beds, storage and crew access. A floor plan and an inspection are more useful than relying on the advertised guest total alone.

Fraser also highlights a Jacuzzi, bar, generous sun pads and outside dining areas. These features suggest a yacht designed around warm-climate leisure, particularly when guests spend long days at anchor. They still require attention to shade, safety, drainage and the route followed by crew carrying food and equipment between decks.

The yacht’s advertised shallow draft of approximately 1.5 metres makes her potentially appealing for some areas of the Bahamas, as Fraser points out. This is not permission to enter every shallow anchorage. Local charts, actual loaded draft, under-keel clearance, tide and seabed conditions must determine the safe route and position.

The significance of the 2024 refit

A recent refit can refresh a yacht’s appearance and machinery, but the phrase covers a wide spectrum of work. Buyers should ask for invoices, photographs, class or flag records and a list of components replaced, overhauled or merely inspected. The point is to connect marketing language with technical evidence that survives a change of ownership.

Three high-performance engines also mean several sets of service requirements, spare parts and possible points of failure. An experienced engineer should examine the propulsion train, cooling systems, generators and relevant control electronics. Operating a fast yacht efficiently requires an understanding of the cost per passage as well as the advertised maximum speed.

The waterside experience may be as important as performance. A tender, swim access and water equipment must be usable without creating a constant conflict with guests lounging aft. A serious sea trial and tender-handling demonstration will reveal aspects of the vessel that photographs of the Jacuzzi and dining decks cannot establish.

How the new price should be interpreted

The $7.9 million figure is a current public asking price from Fraser’s October announcement. It is not an independent valuation or proof that a sale can be agreed at a particular amount. Comparable yachts differ in refit quality, certification, location and engine hours, all of which can influence the final transaction.

A prospective charter buyer should separately review the vessel’s commercial compliance, local operating permissions and actual revenue history, if any. Speed and shallow draft do not by themselves create a viable charter business. Crew availability, maintenance downtime and seasonal conditions are central to a realistic financial forecast.

BACK 9 AND A HALF combines a distinctive fast-cruising profile with guest accommodation and a documented price adjustment. The October news is meaningful for the brokerage market, but a decision to acquire her should rest on the quality of the 2024 work, technical inspection and fit with the owner’s cruising habits. Price is only one element of the equation.
