A proposed addition to a European marina network
D-Marin has announced an agreement to acquire Porto San Rocco Marina Resort at Muggia near Trieste, a step that would extend its Northern Adriatic network if the transaction receives regulatory approval. The proposed addition was reported on 13 October 2026, and the approval condition remains an important distinction: the deal should not yet be treated as an unrestricted, completed transfer of operations.
Porto San Rocco has 546 berths for vessels measuring approximately eight to 60 metres. This range makes the marina relevant to owners of luxury yachts below 24 metres, as well as operators of substantially larger private craft using the same Adriatic cruising routes.
A resort marina with wide-ranging facilities
The marina occupies a waterfront setting within a pedestrian village designed by architect Luigi Vietti. Facilities described by the operator include hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, a swimming pool, fitness and beauty amenities, a fuel station and a conference hall, giving visiting yacht owners access to a range of services beyond the berth.
For cruising families or groups who want several nights ashore, this combination can make a marina more attractive than a basic overnight mooring. Food, shopping and shore recreation within walking distance may reduce the need for lengthy transfers, particularly when the yacht is being provisioned or prepared for another passage.
Operational essentials still matter as much as leisure facilities. A visiting skipper will need to confirm berth measurements, draft limitations, shore connections, approach requirements and the availability of technical assistance before making an arrival plan.
Connections along three Adriatic coastlines
Porto San Rocco is positioned as a gateway to the northern coasts of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. Its location near Trieste offers connections by road, rail, air and sea, supporting owners who join a boat at a marina rather than remain on board for an entire cruising itinerary.
If approved, the transaction would take D-Marin’s Italian network to nine marinas, complementing its existing Northern Adriatic presence at Punta Faro. The wider Italian portfolio stretches through Liguria, Sardinia and Tuscany, and D-Marin says its operational experience and digital services could support the new location.
Network membership can be valuable to an owner who moves between several marinas, but benefits depend on individual contracts and local services. No future berth price, discount or cross-marina privilege should be assumed on the basis of a corporate acquisition announcement.
What remains to be decided
D-Marin chief executive Oliver Dörschuck has described the location as a natural fit for the company’s Italian and Croatian operations. The group also identifies opportunities to build on existing service standards, customer relationships and sustainable infrastructure once the necessary approvals and transition steps are completed.
Financial adviser Intesa Sanpaolo and legal adviser Latham & Watkins were involved in the proposed deal, indicating a formal transaction process. The sources reviewed do not disclose a purchase consideration or a confirmed date when any change to day-to-day marina management would take effect.
For yacht owners, the immediate news is the pending acquisition rather than a material change in the availability or operation of Porto San Rocco. Existing marina contacts remain the appropriate source for berthing, service and tariff information until definitive operating arrangements are announced.
