Good watersports clothing addresses the realities of spending long hours afloat, not only colour and fit. The RYA announced WUKA as its official period partner in February, adding practical clothing options and educational support to women’s and girls’ sailing programmes.

Comfort designed around the activity

WUKA supplies period-friendly swimwear and related garments intended for active use. The RYA says the partnership aims to reduce a practical barrier faced by some sailors, particularly when changing facilities or opportunities to return ashore are limited.

The products are individual clothing choices, not a medical intervention or universal fit solution. Wearers should use the brand’s capacity, size and care guidance for the intended duration and activity.

Programmes receiving support

The one-year collaboration includes the Northern Ireland Sailing Team, Scotland Performance Pathway and British Sailing Pathways Talent Academies. It also brings workshops and information alongside the clothing, linking practical access with training environments.

RYA members are offered a ten-percent product discount under the partnership’s published terms. An advertised member benefit does not establish a permanent price or availability for every product.

A wider boating wardrobe

The initiative is most directly about younger sailors, but the concern is familiar to women who race, cruise or undertake watersports from a yacht. Practical planning includes discreet storage, appropriate facilities and the flexibility to change clothing when required.

A comfortable garment should not be mistaken for a lifejacket, buoyancy aid or cold-water protection. Safe clothing choices depend on weather, water temperature and the actual boat.

Participation rather than a slogan

The RYA places the initiative alongside its wider efforts to improve routes into coaching, race officiating and competitive sailing. Its intention is to support people’s participation, while individual outcomes must be assessed over time.
