Stand-up paddling offers a direct way to explore a quiet bay as well as a demanding competitive sport. Italian paddler Cecilia Pampinella claimed all three Open Women’s European titles at the 2026 Paddle Europe championships in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, on 18–20 September.

Three disciplines in one weekend

Pampinella won the Sprint and Technical races before adding Long Distance gold on the final day. The organiser recorded her Long Distance winning time as 1:31:19.705, with compatriot Claudia Postiglione second.

That was a completed result from the September championships, not a prediction. The three titles reflect different demands in acceleration, turning and sustained pacing.

A location shaped by the sea

Agios Nikolaos brought the event to a visible Cretan waterfront with sea conditions forming part of the challenge. For visitors, the setting highlights why stand-up paddling can complement a yacht itinerary even when no competition is planned.

An organised race course is not a recommended leisure route in every condition. Owners need a safe launch, suitable weather and local knowledge before taking a board away from an anchorage.

Why equipment and technique matter

A board, paddle, leash and appropriate flotation arrangements should suit the intended water and experience level. Paddling from a yacht also requires a reliable way to return aboard and communicate if conditions change.

Competitive racing expertise cannot simply be transferred to an inexperienced guest with a premium board. Professional tuition and calm protected water are more important than equipment branding.
