Alila Mayakoba is joining Erewhon’s Member Lifestyle Collective from October 1, placing the Riviera Maya resort within a wider group of brands focused on wellbeing and intentional living. The 60-acre property combines beach, lagoon and jungle with 182 guestrooms, suites and villas, six dining destinations and Alila Spa.

The landscape drives the resort’s identity

Alila Mayakoba stretches across beach, lagoon and jungle rather than concentrating everything around a single pool or building. Architecture opens towards the surrounding environment, allowing water, vegetation and light to shape the experience as much as the interiors.

For LYG readers, that approach is particularly relevant because it reflects the same attraction that draws people to time afloat: a sense that the setting is not simply a backdrop but the central reason to be there. The effect should feel quieter and more immersive than a resort built around one dominant central complex.

Local materials and artisans are part of the design

Hyatt says the resort uses locally sourced materials and collaborations with regional artisans to bring the Yucatán Peninsula into the property. This gives the design a stronger regional identity than simply importing an international luxury aesthetic.

The best resort design usually feels specific enough that it could not be moved unchanged to another country. Craft, texture and material choice can achieve that without relying on obvious motifs or decorative clichés.

Wellbeing is developed with local practitioners

The resort’s wellbeing programme includes input from local practitioners, adding a cultural dimension to spa and recovery experiences. That can make wellness feel less like a standardised menu of treatments and more closely connected to place.

Travellers increasingly expect wellness to extend beyond massage. Movement, sleep, nutrition, time outdoors and locally rooted practices can all contribute to a more complete sense of recovery during a holiday.

The Erewhon partnership targets a lifestyle-minded audience

Beginning October 1, Alila Mayakoba and three California Alila properties are joining Erewhon’s Member Lifestyle Collective. The partnership introduces the hotels to an audience already interested in food, wellbeing and premium everyday products.

Whether the collaboration matters will depend on what experiences it produces, but the fit is clear. Alila Mayakoba is being positioned less as a showpiece resort and more as a place for guests who value design, nature and wellbeing without needing constant spectacle.
