Two new propulsion directions are being prepared

Palm Beach currently lists both an outboard PB42 and a jet-drive PB42 as forthcoming versions of the existing platform. That gives buyers two additional machinery concepts beyond the standard twin Volvo IPS installation.

The alternatives address different priorities. Outboards can simplify service and free interior machinery space, while jets can reduce draft and protect propulsion hardware in shallow-water cruising areas where conventional drives may be less attractive.

The standard sedan already provides a proven baseline

The existing PB42 sedan measures 14.72 metres overall with a 4.48-metre beam and uses twin Volvo IPS650 units as standard. Palm Beach publishes a layout with a climate-controlled saloon and a private owner's stateroom despite the relatively compact dimensions.

That baseline matters because the new versions are not starting from an untested concept. The builder can adapt propulsion while retaining a hull and accommodation philosophy already developed around efficiency, low weight and owner operation.

Shallow-water access could become a major differentiator

Palm Beach has previously highlighted owner demand for reduced draft on jet-powered yachts, particularly in cruising areas where harbour entrances and sand bars can become restrictive. A PB42 jet variant would extend that idea into a smaller current model.

For owners based in places such as the Bahamas, parts of Australia or shallow estuaries, propulsion choice can shape where a yacht is realistically usable. Draft is therefore not merely a technical specification but a direct lifestyle consideration.

The model becomes more adaptable without changing size

Adding propulsion variants gives the PB42 more market reach without forcing the builder to create separate hulls for every use case. Owners can select a mechanical concept around local conditions while retaining the same general scale and design language.
