The S50 sits in a deliberate owner-operator size band
Maritimo describes the 50- to 75-foot market as a core area for its customers, and the S50 enters at the more manageable end of that range. The sedan configuration keeps the helm, galley, saloon and cockpit on one principal level.
For buyers moving up from smaller cruisers, this arrangement can reduce the operational jump associated with a larger yacht. Sightlines remain straightforward, guest movement is easy to understand and routine handling does not depend on a separate upper helm.
Shaft drives keep the engineering familiar
Twin Volvo Penta D13 diesels provide 800hp as standard, with 1,000hp options available, driving through conventional shafts. Maritimo continues to favour this arrangement for offshore reliability, serviceability and predictable handling rather than pursuing propulsion novelty for its own sake.
That philosophy will appeal to owners who cruise far from their home marina. Straightforward mechanical systems can be easier to inspect and maintain, especially when a yacht spends time in regions where access to highly specialised technicians may be limited.
The adaptive swim platform solves a practical marina problem
A distinctive feature is Maritimo’s Adaptive Swim Platform, which lowers and tilts for water access but folds vertically against the transom when required. In its raised position it shortens the yacht’s effective overall length for tighter berths and pen restrictions.
Small gains in berth compatibility can have significant ownership value. Marina pricing and availability often change sharply at length thresholds, so a platform that improves water access without permanently extending the yacht can make everyday use more flexible.
Fort Lauderdale puts the model in front of a demanding market
The S50 will be shown publicly at FLIBS from 28 October to 1 November, supported by Maritimo’s Americas service network. The builder is positioning the model for coastal cruising, Great Lakes ownership and longer East Coast passages.
North American buyers often combine varied operating conditions within one season, so the S50’s success will depend on more than accommodation volume. Seakeeping, service support, machinery access and ease of handling will be central to how the model is received after the show.
