An opening in stages on Curaçao's west coast
TUI BLUE Curaçao has begun welcoming visitors to Santa Martha Bay, bringing a new five-star, all-inclusive resort to the western side of the Caribbean island. The operator says its first guests arrived on 20 October 2026, while the project remains in a phased-opening period. That distinction matters for travellers expecting every restaurant, spa facility and landscaped area to be ready from their first night. The latest official update, dated 26 October, confirms guest operations but also acknowledges that building and finishing work continues in designated areas.
The resort occupies a site previously associated with the Coral Cliff Hotel and later Sunset Waters Beach Resort in Groot Santa Martha. This is a different proposition from the busy hotel districts around Willemstad: the appeal is a sheltered coastal setting and a quieter base for exploring Curaçao. Yet buyers should treat glossy destination photographs and the resort's eventual facilities list separately from the amenities already in service. Its operator has been unusually explicit about the distinction, issuing dated construction and guest-experience updates on its own website.
What guests can use now
According to the 26 October update, the functioning facilities include the principal Oasis swimming pool and pool bar, THEA's Reserve, IVO Beach Restaurant & Bar, a temporary-lobby Grab & Go service, a snack court and a children's playground. The hotel also lists beachfront and in-room massages, together with pop-up dining experiences. These details provide a more realistic basis for planning a first stay than a general promise of a fully operating six-restaurant resort. The breadth of current dining may vary as individual outlets and services settle into operation.
The completed concept is intended to offer six restaurants and a wider programme of yoga, fitness, spa treatments and other wellness experiences. The resort says some of these will be introduced progressively, with construction and finishing activity continuing in sections of the property. Its earlier September guidance referred to standard and swim-up rooms, beachfront access and temporary dining arrangements during the opening phase. Visitors booking for a particular facility should therefore confirm its availability for their exact travel dates directly with the property, ideally in writing.
How the timeline developed
Opening dates changed during construction. In July the operator announced a revised formal opening date of 1 November, alongside plans for a controlled guest phase beginning on 20 October. Its October updates confirm that guests arrived on the latter date, but the 26 October statement still describes an incomplete rollout. The official website does not, in that update, assert that every planned facility became operational on 1 November. That is why this report describes the resort as welcoming guests in phases rather than declaring the entire project finished.
The resort says invited guests participated in trial stays and meals during October so staff could test the practical experience before full commercial operation. Earlier progress reports discussed landscaping, pool filling, room preparation and staff training, and identified different rates of completion across the east and west sections. These are operational details that can influence a holiday as much as architecture or room decor. Prospective visitors seeking a completely settled environment may prefer to schedule a later stay, while others might accept the opening phase in exchange for introductory benefits.
Founding guest offers and booking choices
A 13 October official update advertised a founding-guest offer for direct stays between 20 October 2026 and 1 February 2027. The advertised package included a 20 per cent reduction on the initial stay and a 15 per cent lifetime discount for future direct bookings, subject to the property's applicable terms. Such benefits may appeal to travellers comfortable with some facilities opening gradually. They should nevertheless check current rates, eligible dates, exclusions and whether a particular room category is available before relying on historical promotional language.
The operator now points customers to its direct booking engine and says reservations can also be made through major accommodation platforms. TUI package holidays are described as available from April 2027, with availability varying by market. Booking channels should not be assumed to offer identical conditions or cancellation rights. When comparing an opening-period direct reservation with a package booked months later, the meaningful differences are what is actually open, the included meals and drinks, transport arrangements and the ability to change plans if specific experiences remain unavailable.
A coastal setting and the guest experience
Santa Martha Bay lies away from Curaçao's more familiar urban waterfront, placing the resort's position and outlook at the centre of its appeal. The company highlights nearby coves, striking limestone scenery and clear Caribbean water, while its own images document the evolving property. For owners or charter guests considering a land-based extension to a Caribbean itinerary, such a setting may offer a contrast to time aboard. It is nevertheless a hotel stay rather than a yacht-berth service, and individual transfers or maritime arrangements require separate planning.
The public opening diary also provides clues to the intended character of the property. Family-oriented facilities sit alongside poolside dining, more formal restaurant service and wellness ambitions. Its oceanfront room photographs are presented as real accommodation images, rather than concept art, an important distinction when judging a new-build resort. Even with authentic photographs, room views, surroundings and nearby work can differ by building and date. Guests with strong preferences should ask for specific room information and a current operational summary rather than treating a single photograph as a guarantee.
Local workforce and the questions worth asking
The resort reported that 80 hospitality employees completed a month-long paid training programme in June, with 90 per cent identified as native Curaçaoans and roughly 40 per cent coming from the Bandabou area. That investment signals an effort to build local operational capacity before admitting guests, although a training milestone is not proof that every service has reached its final standard. As with any newly opened luxury property, consistency of restaurant service, maintenance response and the handling of guest requests will only become apparent over time.
For travellers, the practical checklist is straightforward: establish which restaurants, pools and spa treatments are functioning on the proposed dates; ask whether finishing work affects the selected room; confirm the all-inclusive inclusions and any advance reservations; and examine the cancellation terms carefully. The resort's dated official updates make this easier than relying on undated promotional descriptions. TUI BLUE Curaçao has achieved the decisive first step of welcoming guests, but its staged introduction remains a material part of the story. The best opening-period booking is an informed one, with expectations matching the facilities available.
